What to look for when buying a towel?

Not sure what to look for when buying a towel? You're in the right place! Read our article in which we explain how to choose practical bathroom towels and more. Find out whether it's worth opting for terry cloth or whether it's better to buy Egyptian cotton models. After reading this guide, you will also know how large a towel to choose to meet your needs.

For the home and beyond - what to keep in mind when buying towels?

Towels are, despite appearances to the contrary, only a minor hygienic accessory. After all, there is hardly a person who does not feel like wrapping themselves in a fluffy fabric after a hard day's bath. Unfortunately, it is often the case that these textiles lose their original appearance and properties after a few uses.

Wondering what to look for when buying towels so that they are pleasant to the touch, absorbent and functional for a long time? First of all, match them to your needs - remember that a different model will be suitable for the beach, while another will work for wiping your body after a bath.

Towel types - how do you choose a model to suit your needs?

Among the many types of towels, you will find bath towels that absorb water well, as well as small towels suitable for hands. You can also opt for large beach towels, which are an essential part of your holiday. They differ not only in size, but also in features. What should you consider when choosing a towel?

Large cotton bath towels and more

When buying bath towels, steer clear of those made of plastic, which often cause irritation. Remember that such models are unsuitable especially for allergy sufferers. The most absorbent textiles are much better, i.e. those made of cotton - classic or Egyptian - as well as terry and bamboo towels. That's not all: the length of the loops that make up the towel is also important. They are the ones that absorb water, so they should not only be long, but also as thin and densely woven as possible. You will love a bath towel with this structure for its comfort.

Practical cotton hand towels

When it comes to hand towels, medium and small textile products of this type are the most practical solution. You can choose a 30×50 cm version, which will take up little space not only in your bathroom but also in the washing machine or dryer. When choosing such towels, just like bath models, also consider the material they are made of. What is the best material to opt for? It could be the reliable cotton - towels made from this fabric are not only absorbent but also soft, so they won't irritate the delicate skin of your hands.

A beach towel that dries quickly

Cotton will also work well for beach towels. Why? Because this material is pleasant to the touch and lightweight, so it won't take up much space in your beach bag or suitcase. In addition, such towels dry quickly, which is especially important for beach textiles. Terry cloths will also be a good choice. A fitted towel of this type is not only comfortable - you won't be disappointed by its absorbency either.

What to look for when buying a towel?

What else to bear in mind when choosing towels? Check their grammage, i.e. the weight of the fabric they are made from. The size of the towel is also important: a larger model will be suitable for an adult, while a medium-sized product of this type will be useful for drying a child after bathing.

Such accessories should decorate your bathroom, so choose them from this angle too. Towels decorated with floral motifs, a finely hemmed model with embroidery, or perhaps a set of textiles in white? These are just a few of the options you can opt for. Wondering if you can give towels as gifts? Of course you can! Just remember to think about which model the recipient will like best.

Weight of towel

The grammage of a towel is, in simplest terms, an indication of the density and weight of the fabric. How is it calculated? By checking how many grams of fabric fall into one square metre of fabric. The higher the grammage, the heavier the fabric, and the higher the density of the fabric in the towel. Consequently, it has been sewn from more fabric.

Does this mean that high-weight textiles are the best? Not necessarily. Although such models are extremely soft and squishy, bear in mind that heavy towels take longer to dry. If you want this type of accessory to be absorbent, lightweight and reasonably priced, a towel weight of between 400 and 550 g/m² is best.

Size of towel

You will find towels in different sizes in the shops. As we mentioned, for wiping your hands it's best to choose the 30×50 cm variant, which will also work well for drying your face. However, remember not to use the same towel for different parts of your body, especially if you have sensitive skin, as this can be bad for your skin. If you are looking for bathing textiles, opt for those with a length of at least 140 cm, and an even better choice would be the ultra-comfortable models measuring 100×150-180 cm.

Buying a towel - choose a colour and pattern

When buying a towel, you have a choice of plain, timeless models that will work, especially if your bathroom is decorated in a minimalist way. In addition, you can also find versions decorated with floral prints, fairytale characters or festive motifs. Choose the colour and pattern of your towel to suit your tastes! Do you like eclectic solutions? Opt for a multicoloured model. Or if you prefer bright colours, buy white, beige or pastel terry towels.
