Below, you will find detailed descriptions of the various cleaning methods so that you will always have snow-white towels at home!

Bleaching towels with lemon juice

Then wash the fabric in the same way as always. Lemon slices can also be used as a bleach agent: add them to boiling water, soak the towels in the solution for an hour and then wash them. Lemon not only improves the colour of the fabric, but also removes bad smells.

Soaking towels in warm water

Soak your towels in warm water before you wash them for the first time - for up to 24 hours. This will make them softer and more absorbent. And if the fabric is already discoloured, add a few aspirin tablets to the water. This will eliminate yellow stains and give your white towels their beautiful, flawless colour back.

Reliable baking soda for tarnished towels

To whiten your towels, you can add baking soda to your laundry. Pour one packet of it into the drum of your washing machine or use it instead of classic powder. Another solution is to soak your towels in a mixture of baking soda and water for a few hours. However, make sure not to overdo the amount, as if used in excess, it can adversely affect the fibres of the fabric. Half a cup of baking soda to a large bowl of water will do. Then do a standard wash according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Why do towels turn grey and lose their original colour?

Wondering why towels go grey? It is usually the result of their improper care. The most common causes of discolouration of these accessories are: washing them at too high a temperature, putting different coloured fabrics in the washing machine drum, and choosing poor quality materials.

Factors contributing to towel fading:

  • Wash at high temperatures - wash white towels using a programme designed for delicate fabrics. High temperatures make them grey.
  • Overloaded washing machine drum - fabrics are unlikely to get washed in an overloaded washing machine.
  • Wash light and coloured towels together - sort towels by colour and wash them separately before washing.
  • Inappropriate towel detergents - refrain from using strong detergents that promote stains and make fabrics rough. How do you wash your towels to keep them soft? Above all, use gentle powders and natural detergents.
  • Poor-quality towels - choose towels made of durable materials and of high weight, from which the dye will not wash off quickly.
  • Drying towels in full sun - when drying towels outside, leave them in a shaded area. Intense sunlight can easily discolour them.
  • Drying towels on radiators - not only does this adversely affect their appearance, it also makes them unpleasant to the touch.
