Arched windows are a highlight of both older and newer houses. They give the building a unique character (almost palace-like) and elegance. They allow very good room illumination. If you want to attach window covers to them, don't expect traditional solutions. Arched windows require suitable curtains for arched windows, sheers, blinds. Read how to cover arched windows.
Arched windows are divided into facade windows, large-size windows (balcony and terrace windows), and roof windows. They can have different constructions - mixed, casement or fixed (so-called fixes). It is worth discussing the first of these in particular - in this case, the window consists of several craters (rounded and rectangular). The upper part (with the arch) is fixed, while the rectangular sashes are often tilt or turn.
Arched windows are original, and a part of interior decoration. It’s not weird that at hot, sunny days people want to protect room from overheating. They would also want some privacy.
Usually with arched windows come curtains or sheers. They are answer for question about how to style windows with arches. Hanging them above the glass allows to block the light from outside. Long and heavy curtains for arched windows won’t work out in every room i.e. in modern or boho styled ones. Check out velour curtain Velvet 01.
As far as window blinds are concerned, both internal and external blinds can be fitted to arched windows. The roller blind, which is on the external side, should be accurately fitted to the window frame - only then will it be functional. However, it is more common to use internal blinds, such as Roman blinds, pleated blinds and wooden blinds for arched windows with thick slats. Arched windows are usually quite large (in length) and therefore sometimes require roller blinds from the ceiling to the floor. Window blinds are a guarantee of privacy for the occupants, as well as an opportunity to limit the sunlight that enters the interior.
Wondering how to cleverly disguise a curtain rod? There are ways to do this. If you prefer to cover your arched windows with curtains, consider the location of the curtain rod. The first option is a simple single curtain rod, positioned above the arch. The second option is a curtain rod just below the arch of the window.
The first way is more often used. Such a high-placed curtain rod allows the curtains to be spread out so that the entire, decorative and unique arched window is exposed during the day. In this case, heavy, long curtains for arched windows in a solid colour (possibly decorated with a delicate pattern) will work best. The curtain rod under the arched window is most often chosen for very large or very narrow windows. Thanks to it, the window is optically enlarged and does not overwhelm the room. It is also the only possible solution when there is no room for a curtain rod above the arch.
Internal roller blinds can be made of different materials. Each room has a different character, so a different type of blind will most likely work well in them. For the bedroom, it is advisable to choose blackout roller blinds, which will provide an atmosphere conducive to sleep and prevent the interior from becoming too warm and too bright. In the bathroom, kitchen or hallway, you can already use light-diffusing roller blinds.
The colour of the interior roller blinds also matters. Arched windows have usually been assigned to elegant, subdued rooms. It is recommended that their colour is similar to the shade of the window frame. Lovers of more avant-garde and daring arrangements may do otherwise and choose roller blinds with intense colours. However, it should be ensured that such blinds do not "clash" with other elements of the décor. Harmony or contrast must be maintained.
Interior designers often recommend the use of pleated roller blinds (window pleats) for arched windows. These window guards consist of a rigid material which folds into an accordion (not rolls up), with two handles at its ends. Thanks to their unique construction and control system, pleated blinds allow the degree of interior illumination to be freely regulated. The entire construction is supported by side guides. It is therefore possible to expose the window from both above and below. The roller blind can be stably positioned anywhere, supported by a stable control mechanism. Pleated blinds can be fitted to windows of various shapes (not only arches, but also trapeziums, triangles).
Window arrangements usually use a variety of fabrics, necessary drapery. However, nature lovers opt for another option - wooden blinds for arched windows. Both horizontal and vertical models of these covers are available on the market. Also increasingly popular are pleated blinds - in the form of sliding and unfolding (in various ways) blinds - mounted directly to the window sash. You do not have to think long about how to cover arched windows using pleated blinds - the cover mechanism is simple and intuitive.
