What are you looking for?
A well-chosen curtain rod can be a real ornament of a room and an important element in the design. However, there are some interiors where the curtain rod is clearly in the way and spoils the space. How can you disguise it so that it does not attract attention? Here are some clever solutions to hide the curtain rod.
Many people wonder how to camouflage a curtain rod in a quick and hassle-free manner. Not everyone is prepared to go through extensive renovations just to make a curtain rod invisible. Fortunately, there is no shortage of much quicker solutions. Here they are:
Masking strips - this is one of the quickest and easiest solutions that can be used. A masking strip can be made of polystyrene, PVC, wood, MDF, or any other material. It can be purchased online or in a stationary shop and comes in many different sizes and styles. Indeed, curtain rod cover strips can be minimalist and blend into the background, but they can also be fancy and decorative. When deciding to use a curtain rod cover strip, you may want to consider illuminated models to provide additional, discreet light in the room. Installing a curtain rail is simple - it is usually glued to the ceiling.
Plasterboard enclosures - a solution for people who like to tinker a bit or have a proven professional. Why use plasterboard enclosures when you can buy ready-made fascias? This is an option for interiors and non-standard curtains that require bespoke solutions. Plasterboard can be used to make any size and shape of fascias. So if you have not been able to find a suitable solution among the prefabricated fascias, you can consider making a fascia out of plasterboard.
Curtains and voile curtains on tape or in a tunnel - an instant way to hide most of the curtain rod. However, it will not be completely concealed. This solution, however, requires you to part with your existing curtains and drapes in favor of fabrics fitted with tape or a tunnel.
Each of these solutions has its strengths, but none of them will provide the complete effect of hiding the curtain rod in the ceiling. If this is the effect you want to achieve, be prepared for a major overhaul.
One way to fully hide a curtain rod in the ceiling is to make a false ceiling - you will be able to hide a curtain rod in any shape and size. However, the disadvantage of this solution is that it is labor-intensive. If a general renovation is planned anyway, this option is worth considering. Otherwise, however, it will be difficult to carry out.
Hiding a curtain rod in the false ceiling works particularly well in high rooms, where lowering the ceiling will not adversely affect the overall impression and sense of free space. If the interior is low, it is better to avoid lowering the entire ceiling just to hide the curtain rod in it.
One more solution to consider when you are wondering how to camouflage a curtain rod is precisely to do away with it. In an increasing number of arrangements, it is no longer curtains and curtains that are used, but blinds, shutters or pleats.
Giving up the curtain rod is becoming increasingly popular, especially so among proponents of modern, minimalist style and many other contemporary trends. What to replace the curtain rod with curtains and drapes for? The options are numerous:
Roller blinds - are an extremely popular way of covering windows. Roller blinds with a cassette provide a very aesthetically pleasing effect and are hidden from dust when rolled up. Roller blinds can have various degrees of transparency, blackout roller blinds and day-night blinds are also available. The great advantage of using roller blinds is that they can be tailored exactly to the size and type of window, as well as the fact that they are available in a very wide range of designs and colors.
Venetian Blinds - can be aluminum or wooden. They have a rather modern character, however, and fit into both office and home spaces. Blinds can also be made to a specific size. Their disadvantage, however, is that they are difficult to clean (dust will accumulate on all the slats, which is uncomfortable to remove).
Pleats - are a type of window blind, but made of pleated material. Pleats slide along guides like cassette roller blinds with guides, but with the difference that you can uncover the window not only from bottom to top but also vice versa. The aesthetics of pleats are rather modern - they are certainly not as versatile as roller blinds.
Instead of thinking about how to cover up the curtain rod, you can replace it with another (nicer) one or think about replacing curtains and drapes with blinds, shutters, or pleats. With these solutions, you don't need a curtain rod at all and the room will get a whole new character. However, if you prefer to stay with your existing curtains and drapes, you have quite a choice of ways to disguise your curtain rod.
