How to select interior blinds?
Internal blinds
It's a solution that is becoming more and more functional. They help to protect your interior from excessive sunlight, provide a sense of privacy and provide an excellent window decoration to complement your room arrangement. However, there is a very large choice of solutions on the market, which vary in function, assembly and design. We suggest you what look for to select the perfect material blinds for your home, home or office.
What amount of light transmittance do you want to achieve?
Fabric blinds enable the regulation of the light entering the rooms. When a high level of blackout is needed, it is worth choosing blinds made of rubberized fabric. Those type of fabrics works well in flats on the ground floor or bedrooms with a window facing east. Those type of blinds reduces intense rays of sunlight entering the room. Sufficient darkening (but not 100%) may be achieved from thicker fabrics with a tight weave in dark colors. Bright, thin fabrics work out well when we like well-lit interiors. However, it is worth knowing that in the case of rubberized fabrics, even white or cream blinds will provide a high level of blackout.
Types of internal blinds
Manufacturers offer a very wide selection of window blinds. Specific types of fabric blinds differ in their design and functionality.
The most popular are:
Day and Night roller blinds
They consist of two layers of fabric that are overlapping with each other. The stripes are made of blackout fabric with higher density and the other stripes are made with lower light transmission. Such blinds look very neat at the same time allow to control of the level of light entering the room. Day and Night blinds can be set to darken the interior and provide privacy at night time or lightly diffuse the light during the daytime.
Screen roller blinds
Screen shades are one of the most popular fabric roller blinds that work well for both residential and office interiors. They are formed by a rolled-up strip of material (most often manufacturers use PVC, polyester, and less often fibreglass). In this form, free-hanging roller blinds and cassette roller blinds are available.
Roman Blinds
Roman blinds are fabric folds suspended on a roll. The structure is designed in such a way that when it is rolled up, it creates decorative waves. The fabric does not wrap around the roller blind but is lifted to the desired height by the strings located on the sides of the blind. High-end Roman blinds are often reinforced with underwires and have decorative frills sewn on. They combine the function of a classic blind and decorative window curtains. It perfectly matches the classic interior design.
Pleated blinds
Pleated blinds also called pleats are ideal for typical windows, e.g. large balcony windows or roof windows. They can be made of natural and synthetic fabrics. Their characteristic feature is the way they are rolled up and down when the fabric is rolled in parallel along the entire length. The classic versions of pleated blinds are foldable, but now manufacturers also offer pleats that can be moved up and down over the entire window.
The assembly method
When choosing blinds, it is also worth paying attention to the installation method. Window blinds in an aluminum cassette are mounted to the window frame. The cassettes should be screwed to the frame with little screws. Roller blinds without drilling, are not completely non-invasive - their installation requires drilling small holes that are made in the window frame. Free-hanging blinds are usually mounted to the lintel above the window recess. However, we must remember that this method of installation will work only if the rolled-up blind does not interfere with the window sash as the lintel must be high.
Roller blinds with the guiding bars are mounted to the window sash. The guides are fixed with screws (possibly glued), therefore they are not non-invasive blinds, and their installation requires more skills. Mini blinds can be hung the quickest way. It is enough to put them on single-window sashes. Such non-invasive blinds have special hooks that are quick to install and are inexpensive. Day and Night blinds are also available in this version. Because of it, the fabric adheres tightly to the glass, it does not curl, provides good darkness, and looks beautiful.
