What colour of roller blinds protects from the sun?

The sun has great properties - it gives us vitamin D, which has a positive effect on the body's function, skin and general health. But don't forget that it can be a nuisance during the summer months. Many householders try to protect the interior of their homes by installing long-lasting internal roller blinds to regulate the light. But not everyone knows the importance of the colour of the window covering - some colours are more effective at regulating the natural light in a room. Which colours work the best?

How do the colours of roller blinds affect the transmission of light?

The rule is simple - that the darker the blind, the higher the UV protection. At the same time, blackout roller blinds let in approximately 1/3 less light than light vile curtains. The pastel, yellow, beige and white colours diffuse the light and create a gentle twilight in the room.

Transmission of light and roller blind size

The fabric weight of the interior roller blind also has a great effect on the light transmission into the room. Higher protection against overheating of the room is offered by those roller blind models which are sewn from double-layered, gummed materials. They block the glazing (this is where the warm rays of the sun go) and the room (the rays don't affect the interior). The production technology of the blind in question shouldn't be underestimated.

Which colour roller blinds protect from the sun?

There are two schools of thought as to what colour roller blinds protect against the sun. One group of specialists recommends interior roller blinds in light colours. The theory is that white or beige reflects the sun's rays better. Bright fabrics without patterns prevent the interior from overheating. The thicker the interior roller blinds, the better the level of suppression of the sun's rays.

Other specialists - this is a smaller group - have a different opinion on which blinds protect against the sun. They believe that dark fabrics are better for the summer heat. Navy blue, brown interior roller blinds absorb the sun's rays and cut off access to light. Remember, however, that dark colours absorb heat, which involves a sudden rise in the room temperature. Dark blinds are rather gloomy and sad additions, which often don't go well with the most popular design styles (e.g. minimalist, Scandinavian). Blackout roller blinds work well in bedrooms or attics rather than in the living room or kitchen.

Which roller blinds protect against the sun? The most important advantages of light blinds

Light-coloured interior roller blinds are very popular. They give the impression of being delicate. They fit in with most design styles - especially in rooms that aren't exposed to much sunlight. In combination with large windows, they optically enlarge the space in the room. Light colours have good properties - they diffuse light in interiors and don't darken the space. This is a common decision for householders wondering what colour roller blinds protect from the sun.

What colour blinds protect from the sun? What advantages do dark interior blinds have?

Dark blinds (also known as blackout blinds) offer almost 30 % more protection from the sun's rays - for good reason, they're best suited to bedrooms where shade is desired, a respite from the sun. As already mentioned, they attract and absorb solar energy, so the room can heat up - they aren't desirable in kitchens, where the temperature is often high due to cooking.

What should I consider when choosing interior roller blinds? The direction of window exposition

Still wondering which roller blinds protect against the sun? Well-chosen interior roller blinds (the right colour and weight) not only provide protection from the sun but also from heat. Warm, stuffy air can be dangerous to a person's health, especially for seniors and young children.

There is a rule - the lighter, higher quality the blinds, the less chance they will attract heat from outside. Blackout blinds don't have such properties, but they effectively block the sun's rays, leaving a pleasant shade in the room.

The choice of interior roller blinds is therefore dependent on the direction of the window exposition. Particularly hot rooms have south-facing windows. West-facing windows can be just as problematic - strong and intense light reaches them in the afternoon.

Other criteria for the selection of roller blinds

Householders who choose roller blinds for their house or flat also suggest other criteria. They consider, for example, how to choose roller blinds to match the colour of the walls. This applies to almost every type of window covering - Roman Blinds, Roller Blinds, Day and Night Roller Blinds. The question often comes up as to how to select the colour of pleated blinds and other roller blinds.

Before choosing, it's worth knowing the colour palette. There's also a rule that warm colours go better with wooden window frames and furniture. Cold wall tones, on the other hand, are chosen for small rooms and sunny living rooms.
