What are you looking for?
A mosquito net installed in the window is an extremely popular and convenient solution for protection against all kinds of insects so eagerly peeping into our homes during the warm months. It is worth remembering that this method only works correctly if the net is correctly measured and fitted. How do you fit a mosquito net 100% by yourself? You can find out in our guide today!
Before going into detailed instructions for fitting a mosquito net, it is worth pausing for a moment to look at the types of mosquito nets. Remember that this solution does not involve any interference with the window frame. There are a number of nets available on the market, from which we can distinguish:
Accordion mosquito net - the foundation of the construction is a special frame, thanks to which the net folds up like an accordion, usually in the upper part of the window or door;
the roller mosquito net - instead of a frame, this is a cassette fitted over the window or door, into which the mosquito net is retracted;
Magnetic or Velcro mosquito net - in this case, the net is installed using magnetic elements or traditional Velcro, so it can be quickly and freely removed and reattached;
Frame window mosquito net - the construction consists of a frame and a net stretched over it, which is mounted over the entire window surface using swivel hooks.
The above classification is of course not the only one that applies to mosquito nets. They are also differentiated according to their destination. For example, in the FamilyRollo shop, you will also find special nets, e.g. a mosquito net for doors or a mosquito net for roof windows.
As you may have guessed, the process of installing a mosquito net in a window or door depends primarily on the type chosen. However, in order for the net to fulfill its function correctly, it also has to be measured correctly. This is absolutely fundamental and can be problematic for people who do not quite know how to install a mosquito net. So where do you start?
In the case of roll nets or accordion nets, it is advisable to seek professional help, as it is necessary to take specialized measurements of the profile thickness and determine its correct shape. On the other hand, when it comes to magnetic, frame, or hook-and-loop nets, you can manage 100% on your own. All you need to do is measure the width and height of the window or door, add a few centimeters of margin to the result and you're ready to go! In the case of a frame mosquito net, it is also necessary to measure the distance from one frame to the other (horizontally and vertically). The frame also needs to be measured including the seals - at the edges and in the middle.
Let us now turn to the process of installing the mosquito net yourself. The complexity of this process depends of course on the chosen model and the surface of the window or door.
First of all, remember to properly prepare the surface for the installation of the mesh. Above all, it should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased so that the individual components have good adhesion. To do this, you can use, for example, water and washing-up liquid. Next, measure out the velcro tape and stick it to the jamb on the inside of the frame, which must finally be taped up completely. Then apply the mosquito net to it, preferably starting from one of the corners at the top. Press the net carefully against the tape, holding it for a few seconds at a time along its entire length. Done!
When it comes to frame netting, it is important first of all to read the instructions provided by the manufacturer, as individual products may differ in terms of fixing. If you have managed to take the measurements, you can move on to the most complicated stage of the process, namely cutting the frame to the correct length. You can use, for example, a hacksaw to do this. The cut pieces of the structure should then be joined together using angle connectors. Next, the net itself is cut out, unfolded in the folded frame, and fixed in the rubber seal. The final step is to mount the mosquito net on the hinges connected to the brackets, which should be hooked onto the frame and tightened with stabilizing vows. Hook the finished frame onto the hinges and position it accordingly by tightening the adjusting vows. Done!
We hope that this guide will help you to install your mosquito net yourself. If for some reason you have problems with it, ask a professional net fitter to help you. This service will not put too much strain on your wallet and in return, you can be sure that the net has been fastened correctly and will do its job properly!
