What are you looking for?
On the surface, the combination of roller blinds and curtains is quite simple and guarantees a beautiful decorative effect. In practice, however, it is easy to make a mistake here and overwhelm the interior. At the same time, the blackout function of the room must be kept in mind in order to shield yourself from neighbors or excessive sunlight. Check out our tips!
The first and most important consideration is to create a window covering that meets the needs of the householders. A flat on the ground floor, a detached house facing a second building, or a flat on the top floor will need a different type of function. This is not only about aesthetic impressions, but above all about shielding from neighbors or shading when, for example, the bedroom is exposed to a lot of sunlight and you want to relax.
Instead of choosing between curtains or roller blinds, you can opt for both solutions. How do you adjust the degree of shading? With thick roller blind fabrics, it is better to opt for lighter curtains. In practice, you will not overwhelm the interior and the whole will look aesthetically pleasing. If, on the other hand, you opt for a thin roller blind fabric that lets the sun's rays through, you can match this with thick curtain fabric. In this way, you can more or less shield yourself from the outside world whenever you feel like it.
Pay attention to what products you want to combine with each other. Fabric roller blinds are the most popular, and they are the basis of many arrangements, regardless of style. Because they are neutral in character, you have many options, even if they are blackout. Roman blinds, also have a decorative function, so you need to exercise restraint when matching your curtains. Ideally, they should be fairly light and translucent.
The same is true for wooden and aluminum blinds, which are quite a visible part of the room. It is best to match the same shade (e.g. grey or brown) or opt for delicate fabrics that complement the window arrangement.
Day and night blinds, on the other hand, have a special design. Rectangular strips of fabric will not go with all curtain patterns. Here, it is best to opt for a uniform fabric.
It is not worth overdoing it with a variety of fabric colors and patterns. It is definitely better to go for moderation in this area. To optically enlarge the space, choose bright cool shades. Warmer ones provide a cosy atmosphere. Remember, too, that if you opt for a color accent, it is also worth using it in other textiles and home decorations, e.g. rugs, and decorative cushions.
A safe way to do this is to match blinds and curtains in a similar color, from the same shade palette. This way you won't have to worry about other additions to your home. You'll gain a cohesive arrangement that also guarantees a cozy feel. For example, velvet curtains on Velvet tape will work perfectly with cream-colored day-night blinds.
One way to match fabrics perfectly is with a light blind (e.g. grey, cream, white, light pink, light blue) and a darker curtain (e.g. graphite, brown, beige, maroon, navy). This is a safe combination that will allow you to have a cohesive arrangement. In this case, it is the curtains that have the main decorative function. If you opt for a plain fabric, you can choose a patterned fabric to match your interior design style. For example, a floral motif works well in romantic, rustic, and classic rooms. Geometric patterns, on the other hand, look great in modern and elegant interiors.
If you want the blinds to perform the main decorative function, it is better to opt for neutral curtains. You can choose from light and airy fabrics that can resemble tulle. An alternative to such fabric is a solid curtain.
Patterned roller blinds, on the other hand, match the same shade of curtains as the base fabric. For example, if the window covering is grey, such as the Design 31 free-hanging fabric roller blind, and there are white patterns on it, match the fabric in the same color.
Want to combine two shades but are not sure if they will go together? Timeless is white and black. Such a duo guarantees an elegant arrangement. Alternatively, combine grey fabric roller blinds with bottle green or navy blue curtains. These shades are in keeping with the latest design trends.
