What are you looking for?
Vertical blinds are not only an elegant addition to an interior, but also a practical tool that helps control light and privacy in a room. However, do you know how to keep them in pristine condition without spending all day cleaning them? We have good news. Cleaning vertical blinds is simpler than it seems at first glance. In this guide, we will describe step-by-step how to clean your vertical blinds quickly and effectively, so that they protect you from the sun's rays for years to come.
Vertical blinds, known to some as verticals, are usually huge structures that cover very high windows. In order to be able to operate them efficiently, the fabric stripes are usually made of lightweight polyester fabrics. This material boasts a number of advantages.
Above all, it is very durable, which translates into the longevity of your blinds. Polyester fabrics are resistant to fading, which is particularly important if your windows are exposed to strong sunlight. An additional advantage of plastic is its resistance to dirt. In practice, this means that you do not have to spend much time caring for your vertical blinds. However, by far the most important feature, which will particularly appeal to caring homeowners, parents and health and safety inspectors, is the non-combustibility of the polyester fabric used for the stripes in vertical blinds.
What else should you know about vertical blinds? The standard width of the slats is approximately 127 mm. As a result, they provide privacy and protect against excess sunlight, while looking good on windows and not overpowering the interior. We most commonly associate them with offices in office buildings, but they fit into many different spaces. So if you have tall windows in your home and are wondering if they will suit your interior, the answer is a definite yes! They are available in a range of colours, making it easy to match them to almost any environment. Keeping your vertical blinds looking beautiful is no secret, and the key to success is to clean them regularly. The process is very straightforward, so even the busiest schedule will find the time to do it. Especially as it is not an activity that needs to be repeated often. And what does the cleaning process look like?
The most important thing is to vacuum the entire slats. If you remember to do this once in a while, your blinds won't have time to get dirty and no more thorough cleaning will be needed. Most often, wiping them down with a dry cloth or a gentle dusting with a hoover with a soft brush will suffice. Remember that hanging blinds need to be folded first, so that they block the light, and pull the dust from top to bottom. You may find a ladder useful for this.
Sometimes suspended slats can be difficult to clean. If this is the case, there is nothing to worry about. Vertical blinds are designed to be easily unhooked, cleaned on the floor and then clipped back into the guide. This method not only makes your job easier, but also allows you to clean each slat more thoroughly.
When you notice more stubborn dirt - stains, insect droppings, etc. - You will need a slightly damp cloth. Wet it with warm water and wring it out thoroughly. Try not to use detergents, as they can leave behind spots. However, if you are faced with heavier soiling, you can try applying a little mild detergent, such as washing up liquid. Remember, however, that there is always a risk of leaving stains, so use detergents with care.
Many people wonder whether vertical fabric blinds can be washed. In our opinion, the answer is one - you can't do it. Why? Even the gentlest programme and low temperatures can damage the long lamellas of vertical blinds. Also, soaking them in water without detergent can end fatally. After all, the material has to dry somehow, and the chance of the delicate stripes developing stains or becoming dented is very high. So washing vertical blinds is a very risky idea.
In our opinion, vertical blinds should only be washed as a last resort and never by yourself. If they are indeed very dirty and require intervention, we encourage you in such a situation to contact a dry cleaner or a machine cleaning company and ask if you can wash your vertical blinds with them.
However, if you don't have this option, you should replace your blinds with new ones. Visit the website of our Familyrollo shop and check out our wide range of vertical blinds. Choose the colour of the slats along the lines of the previous ones or go for a new interior design. Or maybe you need a change? If so, be sure to read our article: Roller blinds or blinds?
