How do I replace the cord in a roller blind?

Has the cord on your blind broken? First, check if you need a new chain or if you can simply shorten the old one and use the rest for adjustment. If this is not possible we have prepared a guide on how to replace the cord of your blind.

When do I need to replace the cord in my roller blind?

Fabric roller blinds are quite simple in their construction, which is why they enjoy great popularity and are easy to operate. At the same time, they give the effect that many household members want - protection from excessive solar radiation and shielding from neighbors.

Despite its simple design and high quality materials, minor damage to the mechanism or chain may occur. Sometimes one dynamic movement is enough to break the string. People who live with small children or pets know this very well.

It turns out that the problem of how to replace the cord in your blind is not as time-consuming as you might think! You absolutely do not have to worry about replacing the whole mechanism and fabric with a new one either. However, it is worth considering that the better the quality of the blind, the less chance of something bad happening to it during use.

The chain can also be removed from the mechanism, shortened, and reattached to the sprocket. This way you do not have to buy a new component and you only need a little time to repair your blind.

Sometimes there are situations where the cord is too long. Then you have to shorten it and put it back on the blind. You will also find out how to do this in our guide.

Replacing the cord in a fabric roller blind

If you want to know how to replace the cord in a mini roller blind, we have good news for you. It's not a very complicated process, so you can handle it without having to call in a professional.

With the mini roller blind, you don't even have to remove the cover from the window and disassemble the whole mechanism. All you need is a bit of skill, a new chain, and a screwdriver. If the location is difficult to access, it is better to pull down the blind and do this on a stable surface. However, this is not necessary if you are already skilled in this area.

The first step is to get to the place where the cord is supported. Open the roller blind casing to reach the mechanism and pull out the broken chain. To do this, it is of course necessary to remove the connector. Put the new one on the sprocket and turn it in such a way that the cord is properly positioned. For this, you can use a screwdriver. You have to adjust the toothed wheel until the cord is properly rotated. Only then you have to fasten the connector. When the chain is well threaded onto the mechanism and the material slides well down the window, the replacement has taken place correctly.

Opening the mechanism does not, of course, apply to those models that do not have a cover. Then the whole process of replacing the chain is very simple, because you don't have to perform disassembly. All you have to do is unplug the connector from the chain, pull it off, and then put the new one on the sprocket.

How do I replace the cord in a Roman blind?

If you want to replace the cord in a Roman blind, you can also do this easily. It is best to spread the fabric over a large area, such as the floor. Make sure that the roller blind is fully extended. This will ensure the correct effect when replacing the cord.

Just put the new one through the pulley blocks. Make sure that the cord moves freely along the edge of the roller. In some models, it is necessary to use two chains to adjust the Roman blinds. However, everything depends on how wide the fabric is. In this case, it is necessary to make sure that the ends of all cords come out on the same side.

The second stage is to put the chains through the rings and end them properly to lock the adjustment. A little patience and precision will be needed here.

Replacing the cord in Roman blinds is often an aesthetic issue so that they regain their shine after washing the fabric or cleaning it.
