What are you looking for?
A curtain rod is only a seemingly insignificant element of interior decoration. A wrongly chosen one can disturb even the best arrangement. How to choose a curtain rod to make a coherent whole with the curtains and other window covers? What else should you pay attention to when buying it? Find the answers to these questions in our guide!
Wondering how to choose a curtain rod to match your window and the curtains, drapes or other coverings hung in it? Remember that a curtain rod that is too ornate, too short or poorly fitted will make the arrangement look out of place. When choosing the right model, consider whether you want your window to be decorated only with curtains or drapes, or whether you prefer a combination of both. Also, think through your preferred attachment of curtains or drapes right away. Or opt for a less common solution, i.e. blinds installed on a curtain rod.
If you want your window to be decorated with velour curtains and forgo hanging voile curtains, you can opt for a classic single curtain rod or rails. In spacious rooms, a rod variant will also work well. Such a model will look impressive especially in combination with light curtains decorated with a floral print. You can match the colour of the curtain rod with the colour of the curtains, for example by combining the metal rod with grey window covers.
For a window where only voile curtains are to be hung, it is worth choosing a single curtain rail. An alternative is a ceiling track - both will work well in living rooms, dining rooms and other interiors you want to brighten up. When choosing a curtain rail for your voile curtains, also consider the pattern of your window coverings. Simple models will go well with delicate, airy curtains, while those made of wood can be combined with boho-style macramé.
An alternative to traditional curtains are Roman blinds. You can mount them on the wall or ceiling, or hang them from a curtain rail. You will appreciate the latter solution for its uncomplicated installation. Depending on the effect you want to achieve, opt for roller blinds on braces or for a classic model. The former will emphasise the character of rustic and vintage interiors, while the latter option will add elegance to the décor. Both variants of Roman blinds can be installed on a single curtain rail, but if you choose a patterned cover, it is best to match it with a rod without decorative ends.

When buying a curtain rod, also pay attention to its length. You can adjust it to the width of the window niche or choose a long curtain rod to decorate the whole wall. Also consider whether a single, double or telescopic pole will work better in your room.
Although you can adjust the length of the curtain rail to suit your own preferences, the most common choice is a model that fits the width of the window. To look good, it should be longer than the window recess by about 25 cm on each side; and slightly longer than the length of the window sill (about 10 cm), so you can move your curtains out of the way.
Do you want to visually enlarge your interior? Choose a curtain rod that is as long as the wall on which it is to be mounted. Such models also look good in rooms with long, floor-length curtains. Remember then to buy a window covering large enough to hang along the entire length of the curtain rail. Otherwise, it will look unsightly when the fabric is drawn.
When choosing a curtain rod, you can opt for a single or double rod. As we mentioned above, the first option will work well for simple window arrangements - consisting of velour curtains only or voile curtains alone. Choose the second when you want to combine both types of window covering.
Not sure how to cover a window without a curtain rod? First of all, don't give up on this element just because you're afraid you won't be able to cope with the installation. Decide on a telescopic curtain rod, which is a window cover rod that doesn't require drilling into the walls. The small thickness of this type of curtain rod is also a great advantage.
Using our tips, you will not only be able to match the curtain rod to the curtains and drapes, but also to the window recess and the style in which the interior is decorated. In this way, it will create a coherent whole with the rest of the arrangement. Don't forget to also read our guide: How to choose curtains to match the colour of the walls.
