Fixed windows. How to choose the right window covering?
Fixed windows (often called picture window) is a standard window that is non-operational. As such, these windows do not have a handle, hinges, or any operable hardware. Fixed windows permit light to enter while remaining close to the exterior environment (unlike an operable window, which can open and close).
Fixed windows offer many possibilities. They allow illuminating offices, service premises, and shops. They are more and more often found in homes, also in the form of corner windows. Such large glazing increases the aesthetic value of the room. The choice of the type of installation of the window cover is limited though.
Below we present practical solutions for window blinds for both tilt and non-opening windows.
1. Premium window pleats
The strongest advantage of premium window pleats is the ability to regulate the amount of light entering the room. The pleat can be positioned in any part of the window, depending on your needs. It allows you to illuminate the room and admire the beautiful view outside at the same time. The offered materials ensure comfort and intimacy, even when the light is on.
The pleats do not take up space on the sill, so we can afford additional interior decorations. A large selection of colors will additionally allow the pleats to be matched, e.g. to the color of curtains or other accessories.
Premium pleated blinds are equipped with mounting blocks. They should be screwed with tiny screws to the glazing beads of the window. These strips are a replaceable element of the window. Despite the invasive installation, the window warranty is not lost.
Pleated blinds are easy to use, stable, and practical. It is a durable and proven solution for corner windows.
2. Roller blinds in a PVC or aluminum cassette
This type of window cover is also universal. However, in the case of rounded glazing beads, only a roller blind in a PVC cassette will work. When measuring the width, you should take into account at least 1 cm of the flat surface. The material moves in the range of guides that are glued to the window frame.
Roller blinds in a PVC cassette are installed with no-drill mounting. We stick them on the window frame. The product is easy to replace in the event of a change in the design concept of our rooms. Roller blinds in an aesthetic aluminum cassette are invasively mounted- screwed to the glazing bead.
3. Free-hanging blinds mounted on a wall or in a window recess
This type of installation is available for both day and night roller blinds and fabric roller blinds. A large selection of colors and easy installation is a huge advantage. The mechanism can be screwed at any height - on the wall or ceiling. The openings can be easily covered when the roller blind needs to be replaced.
The material does not touch the glass directly. The distance allows you to place such blinds in rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens, where there is higher humidity. Wall-mounted roller blinds allow you to cover the entire window recess or install it inside.
4. Roman blinds
Wall-mounted Roman blinds will effectively replace traditional curtains. They provide privacy and are a beautiful interior decoration. Choosing the right fabric will allow you to achieve any effect - from delicate to full darkening of the room.
5. Wooden blinds
Wooden blinds mounted on a wall or a window frame can be combined with wooden elements in the room- the color of the window joinery or furniture. Depending on your preferences, you can choose a color that contrasts with the accessories in a room. The blinds are made of a durable and natural material such as bamboo wood or Basswood. It evokes positive associations with nature.
What blinds cannot be installed on fixed windows?
The inability to open the window and thus the use of catches excludes the following types of installation.
- basic no-drill pleated blinds
- no-drill mini day and night blinds
- no-drill mini fabric blinds
- Roman blinds mounted on the window frame
When choosing a type of installation, it is worth paying attention to the minimum and maximum dimensions offered by the roller blind manufacturer. The assembly of the product is very simple. An intuitive downloadable instruction and an instructional video are available on the website.
Non-opening windows, despite certain limitations, are a common option to choose picture windows for spaces overlooking a beautiful backyard or a nice view you would like to enhance.
