A self-draining roller blind is a defective blind. Its material may fall only slightly or slide down completely, causing the entire window to be closed and uncoverable. The repair of a damaged roller blind usually involves the complete replacement of the cover or the replacement of the faulty part (e.g. cord, string, whole mechanism). You can do this yourself or call in specialists. Is this all that can be done when a roller shutter falls down? How do I repair a defective window cover?
If the roller shutter falls down by itself, this means that one of the components of the mechanism is damaged. Most likely the chain mechanism, responsible for raising the fabric, or the roller (the material is wound onto it) is damaged. There may also be damage to the fastening system, guide or cassette. Another cause of a falling internal roller blind is improper operation (e.g. very frequent tugging at the tape when raising and lowering the cover) or incorrect installation. It is worth mentioning that problems with the roller blind most frequently occur when it has been assembled independently. Incorrectly fitting it to the window may have led to various problems - e.g. wear and tear on the locking mechanism, causing the cover to fall automatically under the influence of gravity.
Repairing a sagging roller blind involves several steps - finding the cause of the malfunction, removing the damaged cover (either in its entirety or its defective part), and fitting a new one.
Most causes of sagging roller blinds are quite trivial and not serious. Minor faults can be easily remedied by yourself, without having to claim for the old model or buy a new, similar blind. No specialist tools are required - most of the essentials are probably to be found at home (e.g. screwdriver, hammer). Replacing a faulty chain system will only take a few dozen minutes (much depends on manual and technical skills, as well as the experience of the repairer). It is enough to remove the internal roller blind from the window and replace the damaged element with a new one. Proper installation of the window covering is also very important.
If these steps are carried out efficiently, accurately and precisely, you can count on the durability and stability of the construction. Often, repairing a single component in an interior roller shutter yourself takes less time than making a complaint or calling in specialists.
Cord control appears in so-called mini roller blinds and roller blinds in a cassette. In the former case, the mechanism is located on the outside, so the change can be done without removing the cover from the window. All you need to do is unfasten the connector from the roller blind cord and then pull out the old cord.
A more demanding and more difficult way is to attach - in the designated place - a new chain. This therefore involves removing the roller blind and manoeuvring its mechanism. It is useful to know how to remove the blinds. There are two basic ways to apply a new cord in this situation. You can detach the pinwheel with a chain (the balls must go into the characteristic holes). Another way is to apply the cord to the front of the pinwheel, followed by circling the spherical mechanism with a flat screwdriver. The two ends of the cord then need to be joined together - via a connector. You can then hang the blind onto the window.
Wondering how to replace a roller shutter in a cassette? In this case, you must first unscrew the cover from the window - if it has been glued on, replacing the cord is done by unscrewing the side covers of the roller blind from the bearing side and the chain mechanism. Then pull the fabric out of the winding tube, undo the fitting and pull out the chain - putting it on the new mechanism. The next steps are similar to those for mini roller blinds.
Before replacing the line in a drooping roller shutter, get an idea of how it has been attached to the top bracket of the cover. Once you have found where and how it is fitted, pull out the old, broken line and install the new one. How to do it. You will need to braid a strong knot at one end of the fishing line and then weave it through the handle and the eyelet under the fishing line. Remember not to damage the lower handle of the blind - this is the part responsible for the tension of the fishing line.
If you have a problem with your roller blind falling down, you may need to address the very material it is made of. Wondering how to replace the material in your roller blind? You need technical skills and a high degree of precision to do this - without the right knowledge, it can be quite easy to mechanically damage the window covering. To begin with, you need to dismantle the entire roller blind mechanism - unscrew the side covers from both sides, pull out the cord. Then detach the old fabric (preferably after stretching it as far as possible), and put on the new fabric.
The degree of difficulty in changing the fabric in a falling internal blind depends on the mechanism and the way the blind in question is fixed. If the window covering in question has been fixed to the window with special hooks or plates, the change should not cause a great problem. It is much more difficult to remove a roller blind that is permanently fixed to the wall or ceiling. If, on the other hand, the cover has only been glued to the surface, it can be detached using a flat tool (e.g. a chisel) and then reattached with glue or double-sided tape.
