Are wooden blinds practical? Are they worth installing?

Until a few decades ago, blinds were the effective window coverings in every home. Aluminum panels had little to do with aesthetics, which is why in later times they began to be supplanted by blinds made of fabric, darkening and visually pleasing. Now they are once again returning to the fashion of years ago, but they are modern covers and precisely regulate the intensity of light. Find out whether wooden blinds are practical.

What distinguishes wooden blinds?

Wooden blinds are modern and very aesthetically pleasing window covers. They suit practically every room and style of interior design. They perfectly fit in with classic, popular Scandinavian, or even glamour arrangements. They also fill modern, even luxurious rooms. There is no denying that their material is timeless and noble. The slats come in wider and thinner versions, so it is worth considering which width of wooden blinds to choose for your room and window size.

Wood blinds can come in a variety of shades as well as workmanship. Basswood and bamboo are most commonly used for this. The first material is quite light and flexible, and knots are hardly visible. It has great acoustic properties, which is why it is often chosen for interiors with few textiles. It will help to get rid of unpleasant echoes. Interestingly, Basswood is often used for instruments. This is why it has high-strength properties. It does not deform under harsh weather conditions.

Bamboo is also very popular, lightweight, and durable. Unlike Basswood, it is distinguished by its greater hardness. It is an exotic wood that boasts a long life span and resistance to damage. It makes a great visual impression, which is why this type of blind can often be found in conference rooms, hotels, or office spaces. In our last post, we explained how to use wooden blinds to create a spa atmosphere in the bathroom.

How to clean and care for wooden blinds?

Wood does not like strong detergents. You can get rid of dust with a classic soft cloth, such as a microfibre, or use a special brush. It is best to close the slats downwards, clean this part, then turn them over and repeat the operation. As you can see, it is not complicated! Wooden blinds are practical!

There are also special brushes on the market designed for blinds. They have cutouts with which you can reach the surface of the blinds at the same time when they are open. They most often have the characteristic shape of the letter E. You can also use a hoover with a fine and small extension to clean wooden blinds. Remember to avoid excess water. Wood blinds should be cleaned with a dry or possibly slightly damp cloth. Find out more about how to care for wooden blinds here.

It should be noted that wooden blinds are impregnated in such a way that they can be exposed to long periods of sunlight. They do not discolor after time, so they still look aesthetically pleasing. They are not afraid of unfavorable conditions. It is advisable to choose models that are fairly lightweight and durable, such as the aforementioned bamboo or Basswood models. The heavier the load, the easier it is to damage the panels.
